About HCF

Dr.Jose Chacko Heart Care Foundation was established on the World Heart Day of 2005 by the then Governor Sri. R.L Bhatia. In a span of over 15 years the Foundation was able to launch and run successfully several projects in the field of heart care in the State of Kerala. The first project ‘Save 1000 hearts, 1000 lives, 1000 families’ was able to provide financial assistance to over 1500 patients at an average of 100 patients every year. The program ‘Save a life, Save a lifetime’ launched in 2007 have been a big hit among the corporate houses, schools and colleges. This program conducted over 200 classes on Basic life support –CPR and installed AED’s (Automated External Defibrillator) at the International airport and South & North railway stations. ‘Caring hearts’ a quarterly magazine started in 2007 brings out the latest information on the heart disease and on its prevention and is a much sought after magazine in the field of heart care. The Caring Hearts brought out a ‘Special Edition’ to commemorate the 50th Edition. We have included several articles and a brief history of the Foundation to make it as a collectors copy. The ‘Life time achievement award’ instituted by the Foundation has been presenting the same for eminent doctors in the field of Cardiology treatment on ‘World heart day’ (September 29) and is celebrated with various programs every year. The unique program ‘Hrudayasangamam’ (held twice a year) where the doctors and patients who had undergone various heart related surgeries and treatments are invited to discuss and share their experiences and this would go a long way in rehabilitating the patients and bring them in the main stream. ‘Social excellence award’ instituted in memory of our founder member Mr. C V Shanmugam is given away every year for people who excel in their respective field of activities.

We at the Heart Care Foundation are planning for much bigger and wider activities for making the activities of the Foundation more broad based and thereby cover a bigger geographical area and population in the coming years. One such program launched recently by Sri P Sreeramakrishnan, Hon’ble Speaker, Kerala Legislative Assembly ‘Hridayapoorvam, Alangad’ a unique program first of its kind in the State of Kerala. The program envisage to cover the entire Alangad Grama Panchayath in a three phased program where the risk factors of the people between the age group of 30-60 years would be analysed and where there are risks involved those people will be advised to take necessary precaution. This program in a way would be a unique one where entire Panchayath would be ‘Heart care literate’.
